PPF BRANDS COMPARISON
A working framework for comparing 3M, SunTek, STEK and Defcon.
Six Rows Every Brand
Comparison Needs
Whether the sheet says 3M, SunTek, STEK or anything else, the comparison rows stay the same: base material, thickness, self-healing spec, UV testing, warranty procedure and local support. Fill the rows from each brand's published documents.
Defcon's row is on this site in full: aliphatic TPU, 190 microns ±10%, 13-micron self-heal, ARPANSA-tested UV, warranties by line up to 12 years, and support from the Australian team that sells the film.
Where Comparisons
Go Wrong
Brand-name gravity substitutes for spec reading, and warranty headlines get compared without the claims procedure behind them. A 10-year headline with no serialisation is a different product from a 10-year cover with roll-level authentication.
Defcon registers every roll and installation through the e-Warranty, which is the difference between a promise and a record.
The Cheapest Way
To Compare
Order the free sample roll and run your own bench test: no rep in the room, no slides, just film against film in your workshop.
If the numbers hold, the online shop shows the pricing side of the table.
Film Construction
& Testing
When you line the gloss films up against other brands, compare the build rather than the brochure. Defcon gloss PPF uses aliphatic TPU at 190 microns ±10% overall (about 7.5 mils), holds close to 10 kg at a single puncture point, and finishes with a 13-micron self-healing top coat that recovers from minor scratches once heat is applied.
For the UV testing row, Defcon's entry is an ARPANSA test of Glanz clear TPU film: 99.0% of UV blocked, reference UVR_25-0370-1, report on the ARPANSA article. Ask each other brand for the same document. Weighing a specific switch? See XPEL alternative Australia.
Warranty
By Film Line
Warranty length is one of the cleaner ways to compare brands, as long as you read the conditions next to the number. Defcon publishes a limited warranty per line: Defcon ONE 12 years, Glanz and Frozen 10 years, Spectra colour PPF 7 years, Crystal Shield and FleetArmour 3 years, CoolVue window tint lifetime limited, each under normal use and proper installation. The warranty page carries the full wording.
Ask every brand how installs are registered; Defcon's answer is e-Warranty, within 7 days of invoice, transferable with the vehicle.
Put each brand's claim procedure in the table; Defcon's is on the warranty page.
Trade Pricing &
Sample Rolls
Pricing is one row every comparison needs. Defcon's row can be filled from the online shop, where roll prices are listed ex. GST; fill the others from your own quotes.
The comparison is decided on the bench: request a free sample roll and run the same bonnet pattern on it as on the other brands you are weighing.
FAQ
-
Can I test the film before ordering?
Yes. Request a free sample roll and run it through your own installation process, or order the Defcon Practice Pack to train on real film before touching customer stock.
-
Do I need a trade account to order?
If Defcon wins the comparison, the trade account is opened through the contact page and orders ship from the online shop.
-
Will the film yellow over time?
Defcon ONE is backed by a 12-year warranty against yellowing, and abnormal or premature yellowing is treated as a manufacturing defect under warranty. Proper care maintains clarity through the film's lifespan.
-
How long does the film last?
Defcon ONE carries a 12-year warranty and Glanz a 10-year warranty covering yellowing, staining, bubbling, peeling and cracking, so the film you sell is warranted for close to the ownership life of most vehicles.
-
How deep a scratch will the film self-heal?
The self-healing clear coat is about 13 microns thick. Scratches contained in that layer repair with heat from sunlight or warm water. Anything that cuts through the clear coat is permanent, and that section should be replaced.
-
Do you offer support in Chinese?
Yes. Bilingual consultation in English and Chinese is available through our WeChat channel, covering product selection, ordering and technical questions. 我们提供中英双语咨询。
