3-DAY PPF INSTALLATION TRAINING
Three days. Four trainees. Hands-on in Mitcham, Victoria.
The Defcon 3-Day PPF Installation Training is a practical PPF course run at the Defcon Training & Experience Centre in Mitcham, Victoria. Over three consecutive days, a class of no more than four trainees works through the complete DFA installation workflow: surface preparation, film handling, trimming and finishing, plus OEMC pattern software and plotter operation. You leave with a take-home training kit, an individual training report, a personalised practice plan and an ongoing technical support channel. Fees and dates are arranged directly with the Defcon team, and a complimentary visit to the centre can be booked before you commit.
Course Overview
At A Glance
- Duration: three consecutive days
- Class size: a maximum of four trainees, usually working in two pairs
- Location: Defcon Training & Experience Centre, Unit 2/23 Cook Rd, Mitcham VIC 3132
- Course fee: quoted on enquiry
- Daily format: 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, lunch until 1:30 pm, then an afternoon session until the practical work is finished
The course is built to establish correct foundations, not to turn a beginner into an independent installer in three days. Each day ends with an individual review, so by the end of the program every trainee knows which skills to practise next and in what order.
Who This
Course Is For
- People entering the PPF industry
- Detailing and vehicle wrap businesses adding PPF to their menu
- Installers who want a structured foundation under the techniques they already use
- Business owners enrolling a staff member
The first morning covers the Australian PPF market and what the work means for a business owner and for an installer. Each trainee's main difficulty is recorded from Day 1, and the exercises on Day 2 and Day 3 are assigned around it. A class of four is what makes that possible.
What You
Will Learn
- Preparation and workflow: vehicle inspection, washing, decontamination, clay bar, Surface Cleaner and Sophie, through to final checks
- Tools and installation solutions: what each DFA chemical and tool is for, when to use it, and what goes wrong with too much or too little
- Film handling and application: positioning, glassing, stretching, squeegee control and getting installation solution out from under the film
- Trimming, edges and corners: safe knife handling on the DFA Knife Skill Practice Board, then edge and corner finishing with Tack Solution, controlled heat and edge sealing cloths
- Patterns and plotter operation: selecting the vehicle in OEMC software, inspecting the pattern, cutting on the DFA Plotter and weeding the film
- Troubleshooting and practice planning: reading gel marks, bubbles, silvering and contamination, and knowing which can be corrected and which mean the film comes off

Training
- Individual training report: preparation, chemical knowledge, squeegee, glassing and stretching skills, knife skills, edge and corner sealing and problem identification, with the main areas to work on
- Personalised practice plan: preparation first, then squeegee skills, knife skills, edges and corners, simple panels such as guards and doors, and only then mirrors and bumper sections
- Ongoing technical support: a WhatsApp group set up during training, plus phone or message, for installation photos, chemical, pattern and plotter questions
Support means guidance and product help, not installations completed on a trainee's behalf. Business owners can also ask about Defcon Marketing for PPF-specific marketing.

FAQ
-
Can I attend with no previous PPF experience?
Yes. Day 1 starts with preparation and basic installation, and nothing is assumed. The course is built to establish correct foundations; it does not promise that a beginner will install a full vehicle independently after three days.
-
How much hands-on practice is there?
Most of each day. Trainees prepare and film panels themselves from the first morning, rotate through practice stations, and on Day 2 and Day 3 work on bonnets, mirrors and bumper sections with the trainer correcting technique as they go.
-
Do I need to bring tools, film or a vehicle?
No. Film, chemicals, tools, the plotter and software, and a training vehicle are provided for use during the course. You take a training kit home at the end.
-
What does the course fee include?
The fee covers three days of small-group training, the take-home training kit, an individual training report, a personalised practice plan and ongoing technical support after the course. Contact the team for the current fee.
-
What do I leave with?
A take-home kit of film, tools and chemicals, a written training report with your strengths and areas to develop, a practice plan in recommended order, and access to the WhatsApp technical support group.
-
Can a business enrol an employee?
Yes. Detailing shops, wrap shops and workshops adding PPF often send a staff member. Contact the team to discuss dates and suitability.
-
When are the next dates?
Dates are arranged directly with the Defcon team rather than published as a fixed calendar. Enquire through the contact form or call 0455 556 556, and ask about a complimentary visit to the centre if you would like to see it first.
