SUNTEK ALTERNATIVE AUSTRALIA
A spec-sheet comparison for shops reviewing their gloss PPF line.
Comparing a SunTek alternative in Australia comes down to what a gloss film has to prove: it disappears on the panel, heals the light marks washing leaves, and still looks the same years later. Each promise maps to a measurable property. Defcon's gloss lines, Glanz and Defcon ONE, are aliphatic TPU at 190 microns ±10% with a 13-micron self-healing top coat and puncture resistance close to 10 kg. This page puts those figures, ARPANSA UV results and warranty procedure side by side so you can ask your current brand for the same numbers, then test a roll.
What A Gloss Film
Has To Prove
Gloss PPF is sold on three promises: it disappears on the panel, it heals the light marks that washing leaves, and it still looks like that years later. Each promise maps to a measurable property, and each should be checked before a shop commits its stock to a new brand.
Defcon's gloss lines, Glanz and Defcon ONE, are built on aliphatic TPU at 190 microns ±10% with a 13-micron self-healing top coat and single-point puncture resistance close to 10 kg. Those are the figures to request from the brand you stock today.
The Same Panel,
Two Films
The fairest test is the one you can run this week: a free sample roll on one half of a bonnet, your current film on the other. Compare tack, reposition time, stretch over an edge, healing under a heat gun and the finish once the slip solution has flashed off.
Water quality, prep and slip solution affect both films equally, so keep them identical for the test. The installation guide sets out the stages Defcon treats as warranty conditions.
Yellowing And
UV Behaviour
Aliphatic TPU is chosen because it resists the yellowing that aromatic constructions show under Australian sun. ARPANSA tested Glanz clear TPU film in Melbourne and recorded 99.0% of UV blocked, reference UVR_25-0370-1. The TPU vs TPH guide explains why the base material matters more than the brand name on the box.
Roll Sizes And
Ordering
Rolls are 1.52 m x 15 m, listed ex. GST in the online shop with no account needed to order. Orders over $1000 ex. GST ship free Australia-wide, dispatched from Melbourne by CouriersPlease or TNT Road Express, with local pickup available.
Warranty Terms
In Plain Numbers
Defcon ONE carries a 12-year limited warranty, Glanz and Frozen 10 years, Spectra 7 years, Crystal Shield and FleetArmour 3 years, and CoolVue window tint a lifetime limited warranty, all under normal use and proper installation. Terms are published on the warranty page.
Every roll is serialised and every installation registered through e-Warranty within 7 days of invoice. The customer gets a record that transfers with the car; the installer gets a defined claim procedure instead of an email chain.
The warranty guide lists what is covered and what counts as installation related, such as moisture haze, water pockets and dust contamination, so the shop knows where its own risk sits.
Cutting Workflow
And Support
OEMC pattern software and the DFA Plotter come from the same supplier as the film. Training, software setup and tooling advice come from the same supplier, with support in English and Chinese.
New staff can learn on the Practice Pack, which pairs real Glanz with practice film and tools, before they touch customer stock.
Six Rows To
Score Any Brand
Construction and thickness, self-healing depth, published UV testing, warranty length and procedure, pattern access, and support response. The brands comparison framework walks through each row with Defcon's numbers filled in.
Whatever brand is in stock today, the shop that scores those six rows on paper and then runs the sample test makes the decision on evidence.
