STEK ALTERNATIVE AUSTRALIA
For shops whose customers ask for colour and satin as often as clear.
Looking for a STEK alternative in Australia often comes from shops whose customers ask for colour and satin as often as clear. A brand is now judged on its colour range as much as its clear line. Defcon Spectra comes in more than 200 colours across gloss and satin, with 18 m rolls on selected colours and a 7-year limited warranty, and Frozen is the self-healing satin line. This page compares the colour, satin and gloss lines on construction and warranty, so a shop can decide what to move first. A free sample roll lets you check colours in your own lighting.
Colour PPF Is Where
The Comparison Starts
Restyling work has changed what installers buy. A shop that once stocked clear gloss only now quotes satin bonnets and full colour changes in film, and the brand a shop stocks is judged on its colour range as much as its clear line.
Defcon Spectra colour PPF comes in more than 200 colours across gloss and satin finishes, with 18 m rolls on selected colours and a 7-year limited warranty. The colour PPF wholesale page covers trade supply.
Satin Without
The Guesswork
Defcon Frozen is the satin line: a self-healing matte film for factory satin paint and for customers who want a satin look over gloss. It carries a 10-year limited warranty and ships in 1.52 m x 15 m rolls.
Quoting satin has its own traps, from edge finish to how the film reads under showroom lights. The satin quoting guide sets them out for installers moving across from another brand.
Clear Film On
The Same Spec
The gloss lines share one construction: aliphatic TPU at 190 microns ±10%, single-point puncture resistance close to 10 kg and a 13-micron self-healing top coat. ARPANSA tested Glanz clear TPU film in Melbourne, reference UVR_25-0370-1, with 99.0% of UV blocked. Ask any brand you compare for its equivalent published figures.
Film Over Vinyl,
Film Instead Of Vinyl
Colour PPF competes with vinyl wrap on the same cars. The PPF vs vinyl wrap guide explains what each film does and where Spectra covers both jobs in one install: colour change plus impact protection.
Clear Glanz also installs over existing vinyl and graphics, which matters for wrap shops that want to protect finished work. The wrap shop page covers that workflow.
Warranty And
Registration
Spectra carries a 7-year limited warranty, Frozen 10 years, Glanz 10 years and Defcon ONE 12 years, all under normal use and proper installation. Full terms are on the warranty page.
Every roll is serialised and every installation registered through e-Warranty within 7 days of invoice, so a colour change job carries the same transferable record as a clear install.
Compare claim procedures, not just years: the warranty guide lists what is covered and which faults are classed as installation related.
Ordering And
Trade Terms
Rolls are listed ex. GST in the online shop with no account needed to order. Orders over $1000 ex. GST ship free Australia-wide from Melbourne, and consumables ship in the same carton as the film.
A free sample roll lets a shop test the colour or satin film on its own panels before changing suppliers.
Cutting And
Support
OEMC pattern software and the DFA Plotter cut colour and clear film from the same pattern library, so a restyling job does not need a second workflow.
Training and support come through the team that supplies the film, in English and Chinese.
