WINDOW TINT SUPPLIER MELBOURNE
CoolVue nano-ceramic tint for Melbourne tint shops, matched to VIC VLT rules.
Melbourne tint shops can buy Defcon CoolVue nano-ceramic window tint by the roll, with five VLT grades and a lifetime limited warranty registered through e-Warranty. This page sets out the VIC tint rules that decide which grade goes on which window, how the grades read once they are on the glass, and what freight to Melbourne looks like: pickup from Mitcham at no charge, or about $15.67 by CouriersPlease on a 16-litre drum within Melbourne. Rolls are 1.52 m by 30 m and prices are listed ex. GST in the online shop, with no account needed. A free sample roll is the normal first step for a Melbourne shop comparing suppliers.
VIC Tint Rules,
Glass And Film Together
Transport Victoria sets 35% VLT as the minimum on front side windows and 20% behind the driver with a mirror on each side, measured through glass and film together. The windscreen takes no film below the top band, and Victoria adds that the band must not cover a camera or sensor mounted inside the glass, which matters on anything with lane assist. The state by state VLT guide maps each CoolVue grade to the table.
Victoria applies no minimum behind the driver on vehicles built mainly for carrying goods, provided a mirror is fitted on each side, and it spells out that privacy glass already darker than the limit may take no film at all, clear film included.
Five Grades,
Five Readings
The grade names are the starting point, not the legal number. VLT 75 measures 72% on its own, VLT 35 measures 35%, VLT 20 measures 21%, VLT 15 measures 16% and VLT 5 measures 5%. Every grade keeps visible light reflectance between 5% and 8%.
Measure the bare glass before cutting. Glass reading 80% with VLT 75 gives roughly 58%, comfortably legal on a front door; the same glass with VLT 35 gives roughly 28%, which fails in every state.
Heat Rejection
Without Going Dark
Total solar energy rejection on CoolVue runs from 55% on the light grade to 75% on the darkest, while infrared rejection only moves from 95.2% to 98.8%. The legal grade gives up very little heat performance. That matters under a Melbourne summer. The non-metallic construction leaves GPS, toll tags and phone signal untouched.
Freight To
Melbourne
Defcon is based in Mitcham, so Melbourne shops can collect from the warehouse on business days at no charge. Delivered orders within Melbourne quote about $15.67 by CouriersPlease and $24.66 by TNT Road Express on a 16-litre drum of Installation Gel, and orders over $1000 ex. GST ship free.
Both carriers show a delivery estimate at checkout once the postcode is in; CouriersPlease quotes 1 to 4 business days and TNT Road Express 1 to 3. Rolls of tint can ride with PPF rolls and consumables, which helps a smaller order clear the free shipping line.
Glass Roofs
And EV Work
A dark tint is the wrong film for a panoramic roof. The job there is protecting a large, costly glass panel from UV and stones, and Crystal Shield covers it with a 3-year limited warranty.
The EV glass protection film page covers how dealerships and installers quote glass roofs, and the Tesla Model Y page shows the panels involved on a Model Y.
Standard PPF is not made for glass because its optics distort the view, which is why glass work runs on its own film line.
Tint Shops
In Melbourne
Detailing studios in the east, tint shops on the industrial strips, dealerships filming new stock at pre-delivery and wrap shops moving into colour PPF all buy from the same catalogue. A tint customer with a new vehicle is often a paint protection prospect too, and the tint shop page covers how the menu widens from tint into film.
Melbourne shops can see the DFA Plotter and OEMC pattern software running before they buy. Window film and the full PPF range sit in the same online shop, with one warranty system behind both.
Warranty
And Registration
Tint is the line with the longest cover in the Defcon range: a lifetime limited warranty, under normal use and proper installation, with each job registered through e-Warranty within 7 days of invoice.
The warranty page has the full terms, and the warranty guide separates film faults from installation-related ones.
FAQ
-
Can CoolVue go on an EV glass roof?
A panoramic roof is usually a protection job rather than a tint job. Crystal Shield is the clear film made for EV glass, with a 3-year limited warranty.
-
What warranty comes with CoolVue?
A lifetime limited warranty under normal use and proper installation, with every installation registered through e-Warranty within 7 days of invoice.
-
Is the number on the roll the legal number?
No. The legal reading is glass and film together. Multiply the two: glass at 80% with VLT 75 gives about 58%, while VLT 35 on the same glass gives about 28%.
-
How reflective is CoolVue?
Visible light reflectance sits between 5% and 8% across the five grades, under the 10% maximum every state applies.
-
Can I tint the windscreen?
Only a band across the top. The windscreen takes no film below that band, sized as the area above the wiper arc or the top 10% of the screen, whichever is greater.
-
What is the legal window tint in Melbourne?
Transport Victoria sets 35% VLT as the minimum on front side windows and 20% behind the driver with a mirror on each side, measured through glass and film together. The windscreen takes no film below the top band, and Victoria adds that the band must not cover a camera or sensor mounted inside the glass, which matters on anything with lane assist.

How much is freight to Melbourne?
The checkout shows the rate for the postcode before payment; as a guide, pickup from Mitcham at no charge, or about $15.67 by CouriersPlease on a 16-litre drum within Melbourne. Orders over $1000 ex. GST ship free.
