BMW M3 PPF

Keep black paint looking factory fresh, or turn it satin without a respray.

BMW M3 PPF jobs come in two kinds: keeping gloss black paint looking the way it did on delivery day, or turning a gloss M3 satin black without a respray. Defcon Glanz is the clear gloss film for the first, aliphatic TPU at 190 microns ±10% with a 13-micron self-healing top coat that lets light swirl marks fade with heat. Defcon Frozen is the satin film for the second, and because it is film rather than paint it can come off later. This page covers which panels to protect and how each finish is quoted.

Black Paint Shows
Everything

Gloss black paint shows swirl marks, stone chips and wash scratches more than any other colour. Clear PPF on an M3 is mostly about keeping that deep gloss looking the way it did on delivery day. Stone chip coverage for another performance car is on the Porsche 911 page.

Defcon Glanz is a clear gloss PPF in aliphatic TPU at 190 microns ±10%, with a 13-micron self-healing top coat. Light swirl marks fade with heat, so the film keeps its gloss between details.

Gloss To Satin
Without A Respray

Defcon Frozen satin PPF turns a gloss black M3 satin black and protects the paint underneath at the same time. It is film, not paint, so it can come off later and the original gloss is still there. Defcon Frozen also protects the BMW M3 and M4 safety cars at the 2026 BMW Australia Bathurst 12 Hour.

The M3 Competition on this page was finished in Frozen satin film in a studio. Satin film is less forgiving of dust and edge work than gloss, so pick an installer who already works with satin PPF.

Which Panels
To Cover

For stone chips, cover the front end: bonnet, front bumper, front guards, headlights and mirror caps. For a satin finish the whole car has to be wrapped, otherwise the satin panels sit next to gloss ones. Track day cars often add the rocker panels and the area behind the rear wheels, where tyre pickup throws stones.

Warranty And
Registration

Glanz and Frozen carry a 10-year limited warranty. Every roll is serialised and the installer registers the car on e-Warranty within 7 days of invoice.

Defcon Frozen is on the BMW M3 and M4 used as 2026 Bathurst 12 Hour safety cars. Full terms are on the warranty page.

For Installers
Doing M Cars

Defcon sells PPF rolls in gloss, satin and colour, with prices listed ex. GST in the online shop and free shipping on orders over $1000 ex. GST.

Shops new to satin work can practise on the Practice Pack before a customer car, and ask about PPF training.

Not sure which film line to stock? The PPF brands comparison lists the specification rows worth checking for any brand.

Gloss Or Satin:
How To Decide

Gloss film keeps the car as BMW painted it. Satin film changes the look completely. The gloss vs satin PPF guide covers care, cost and resale.

Installers can test both finishes with a free sample roll.

Washing A Car
With PPF

Hand wash with a pH-neutral car shampoo and a soft mitt. Keep a pressure washer nozzle well back from the film edges and never aim it straight at an edge.

Ceramic coating can go on top of PPF for easier washing. The PPF vs ceramic coating guide explains what each one does.
