BYD SEALION 7 PPF
Is it worth it, and which panels to protect first on a new electric SUV.
For most new BYD Sealion 7 owners, PPF on the front end is worth it, because that is where stone chips land on highways and country roads. This page sets out which panels to protect first, from the front bumper and bonnet to the sills and lower doors, and when full-car film makes sense on an electric SUV. It also covers gloss or satin finishes and what to do about a glass roof. Defcon Glanz is aliphatic TPU at 190 microns ±10% with a 13-micron self-healing top coat, and every roll is registered through e-Warranty.
Is PPF Worth It
On A Sealion 7?
For most new Sealion 7 owners, PPF on the front end is worth it. That is where stone chips land on highways and country roads, and a chipped front bumper on a new car is the damage owners notice first. Full-car film adds protection from car park scuffs and gravel on the lower panels.
Defcon Glanz gloss PPF is aliphatic TPU at 190 microns ±10% with a 13-micron self-healing top coat, so light swirl marks from car washes fade with heat.
Which Panels
To Protect First
Start with the front bumper, bonnet, headlights, front guards and mirror caps. Next come the sills and lower doors, which take stones thrown up by the front wheels, and the area in front of the rear wheels.
Electric SUVs are heavy and quiet, and owners often drive them on long highway trips. That makes the front end and the lower sides the priority.
Glass Roof
And Windows
If your Sealion 7 has a glass roof, standard PPF is not made for glass. Defcon Crystal Shield is an optically clear film made for windscreens and EV glass, with a 3-year limited warranty. For heat and glare, CoolVue window tint comes in five VLT grades. Check your state's limits in the window tint laws guide before tinting. The Tesla Model Y page covers the same questions for another electric SUV.
Gloss, Satin
Or Colour
Clear gloss keeps the factory look. Defcon Frozen turns gloss paint satin or matte without a respray, and Defcon Spectra colour PPF comes in more than 200 colours.
Glanz and Frozen carry a 10-year limited warranty and Spectra 7 years. Every roll is serialised and the installer registers the car on e-Warranty within 7 days of invoice. Full terms are on the warranty page.
For Installers
Quoting EV Work
Defcon sells film by the roll, with prices listed ex. GST in the online shop and free shipping on orders over $1000 ex. GST.
OEMC pattern software and the DFA Plotter let a shop cut kits in-house instead of waiting on pre-cut kits for new models.
Not sure which film line to stock? The PPF brands comparison lists the specification rows worth checking for any brand.
UV Tested
In Australia
ARPANSA, the Australian radiation safety agency, tested Glanz clear TPU film in Melbourne: 99.0% of UV blocked, reference UVR_25-0370-1.
Installers can request a free sample roll before stocking a film line.
Washing A Car
With PPF
Hand wash with a pH-neutral car shampoo and a soft mitt. Keep a pressure washer nozzle well back from the film edges and never aim it straight at an edge.
Ceramic coating can go on top of PPF for easier washing. The PPF vs ceramic coating guide explains what each one does.
